    Effect of tetrandrine on microcirculation and ultramicrostructure of gastric mucosa in rats with portal hypertension

    Abstract

    AIM: To evaluate the effects of tetrandrine on lowering portal vein pressure (PVP) and improving the microcirculation and ultramicrostructure of gastric mucosa in rats with portal hypertension.

    METHODS: Except for normal rats in the control group, all rats were established as portal hypertension (PHT) models, and then randomly divided into model (M), tetrandrine (T) and propranolol (P) groups. All rats were sacrificed after 15 d therapy.

    RESULTS: Levels of PVP, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), hyaluronic acid (HA), and procollagen type Ⅲ (PCⅢ) were significantly decreased in the T group compared with those in the M group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), whereas heart rate (HR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were not. In the P group the levels of PVP and HR were significantly decreased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). Levels of MAP, ALT, HA and PCIII were not decreased. The area and diameter of gastric mucosal capillaries were significantly decreased (P < 0.01), and the ultramicrostructure of gastric mucosa was significantly improved in the T and P groups ......
