Abstract
AIM: To observe the protective effects of taurine and vitamin C on liver DNA damage in mice chronically exposed to arsenic (As).
METHODS: Forty mice were divided into 4 groups: As group (4 ppm As2O3), taurine protective group (4 ppm As2O3 + 150 mg/kg taurine), vitamin C protective group (4 ppm As2O3 + 45 mg/kg vitamin C), and normal saline group as controls. Liver tissues were obtained and HE staining was performed, 8-OH-dG expression was examined by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTS: Liver cells in mice in the As-treated groups showed swelling and ballooning degeneration ......
