    Evaluation of gastrointestinal tract lesions induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

    Abstract

    AIM To evaluate the gastrointestinal lesions due to nonstero idal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) prospectively.

    METHODS One hundred and twenty-three patients, 88 men and 35 women, and the mean age was 39.4±12.6 years with gastrointestinal lesions caused by NSAID were presented, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and/or colonosco py were performed. The diagnostic criteria for NSAID was gastrointestinal tract symptoms, including pyrosis, dyspepsia, hematemesis, upper and/or lower abdomina l pain, heartburn nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, hematochezia or melena, use of NSAID in a week, and gastrointestinal tract lesions by EGD and/or colon oscopy. Complete physical examination and fecal occult blood test (FOBT) of two spontaneously passed stools were performed in all patients. ......
