Risk identification, assessment and control of primary hepatocellular cancer*

Abstract
AIM To identify the environmental risk factors of primary hepatocellular cancer (HCC) for assessment of community and individual risk as well as control of HCC.
METHODS In 1997, case-control study was conducted in Haimen, Jiangsu, and 64 HCC cases and 64 healthy controls matched with age, sex and residence were recruited. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to screen the leading risk factors, estimate their relative risk and the weight for risk assessment of HCC were estimated. According to lot quality assurance sampling method, 13 villages in four counties were selected. HBsAg, aflatoxin-serum albumin adducts (AFT-HSA) and history of drinking pond-ditch water were investigated among 50 residents above 35 years old sampled from each village selected. Comprehensive risk assessment index of community and individual risk score were calculated based on the three risk factors mentioned above. The rank correlation was analyzed between HCC mortality rate of each village with the comprehensive index and individual risk score. ......
