    Abstract

    AIM To explore the relationship between spontaneous apoptosis and angiogenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma.

    METHODS Fifty-eight surgical specimens from livers with hepatocellular carcinoma were studied by immunohistochemical staining for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), its receptor-flt-1, and von Willebrand factor as a quantitative marker for microvessel density. We also measured TUNEL Labeling Index (TUNEL LI) using ISEL kit and expression of fas, an important apoptosis-related gene, in HCC. ......
