Abstract Severe hepatitis is a c1inica1 syndromeassociated with massive necrosis of liver cel1s and severe impairment of hepatic functionresulting in an encephalopathy and hepatic coma, jaundice， ascites，hemorrhage，developinghepatic failure，Viral hepatitis account for at least most of cases. There is nospecial treatment，the mortality of severe hepatitis is very high of which with poorprognosis. The classification， etiology， pathogenesis and diagnosis of severehepatitis have been reviewed.
