Abstract Rapid advances in thebiotechnology field have led to the development of novel biomaterials with directtherapeutic applications, and biocompatibility remains the central theme for biomaterialsapplications in medicine. Molecular biocompatibility, which is a largely unexplored areaof biomaterial research. may be defined as the assessment of cell responses tobiomaterials at the molecular level. Here we introduce the current trends the techniquesof molecular biology(PCR, ISH, et al.) provide us with sensitive indicators of reaction atthe tissue-biomaterial interface and play an important role in the evaluation of thebiocompatibility of biomaterials.
