Treatment of lumbago with radio-frequency thermo-c

Professor Yao Meng et al. of the department of orthopedics of the second affiliated hospital of Harbin Medical University treated 326 cases of lumbago and leg pain caused by pathologic changes of the posterior branch of lumbar nerve using their self designed radio-frequency heat coagulation machine of intelligence capacity, without injuring the normal tissue. According to the domestic authoritative score system, the rate of excellent and good results reached 96.09 %.

Based on the special features of the distribution of the posterior branches of lumbar nerves, Professor Yao Meng proposed the "point of transverse process" and the "pedicle of transverse process" which served as the bony landmark of radio-frequency coagulation of the posterior lateral and posterior medial branches of the lumbar nerves. Microscopic anatomical observation revealed that the descending path of the posterior medial branches of the lumbar nerves covered three vertebral bodies with a special feature of overlapping distribution in between the individual vertebral segments. Multiple communicating branches also existed in the posterior lateral branches of the lumbar nerves. Therefore, the side effects of radio-frequency coagulation can be avoided when the inactivation is performed for a single branch. Clinical study of 326 cases showed that the ascending path of pain perception was blocked following radio-frequency coagulation of the posterior medial and lateral branches of the lumbar nerve, and ideal pain relief can be obtained., http://www.100md.com
