Revascularization for distal part of lower extremi

Dr. Gu Yongquan of department of vascular surgery, Xuanwu Hospital performed bypass procedure over dorsal pedal artery using a segment of radial artery, and drew on the foreign advanced experience for the treatment of diabetic foot. The rate of success was 96.7 % in the follow-up of 30 cases avoiding the tragedy of amputation.

Dr. Gu Yongquan emphasized that reconstruction of distal blood flow of the lower extremity is not a procedure suitable for all patients with diabetic foot; the prerequisite is a comparatively sound arterial outflow tract. In a study of the digital subtraction angiography (DSA) data of 232 specimens of amputated limbs in Austin Medical Center, Melbourne University, Australia, Dr. Gu Yongquan proposed a "score" of the outflow tract in the distal limb for prediction of the level of angio-amputation. The accuracy rate was more than 95 %. With this "score" as a foundation to evaluate the basic situation of the arterial outflow in the distal limb as a guide of the bypass procedure was possibly the main reason of his highly successful operation rate in comparison with that of the general arterial reconstructive operation., http://www.100md.com
