"Experimental study of expression of TLMA telomerase and telomere, P53, bcl-2, P170 of acute leukemia on its activity regulation", a study led by Professor Fang Meiyun of department of hematology, the first clinical college, Dalian Medical University was completed recently. The researcher considered that there were changes of multiple regulation genes and factors during the occurrence and the developing process of leukemia; these factors might show their actions at different stages of the disease, and the inhibition of activity of TLMA telomerase might be the new target of acute leukemia.

The results revealed that the telomerase activity in patients with initial treatment was remarkably higher than those with complete remission and those of the normal control; in the initially treated patients the length of telomerase was shorter than that of the control group. The frequency of occurrence of mutativeP53 increased with the worsening of the illness, with the data in the recurrent group of 59.1 %, 30 % in the initially treated, and 17.4 % in those with complete remissions. Anti-apoptosis gene bc1-2 had high expression in leukemia. As to drug resistance mechanism during tumor treatment, P170 had a close correlation with the treatment of leukemia. Expression of P170 was remarkably higher than those in the initially treated group and those with complete remission.

There was a remarkable increase in activity of cellular telomerase in the patients with acute leukemia, indicating telomerase being one of the mechanism of the pathogenesis of acute leukemia, and a close relationship between its level of activity and the stages of the disease. In the initially treated patients with acute leukemia, the telomeres were remarkably shortened, indicating the shortening might be the chief cause of up-regulation of telomerase activity. The mutated type P53 protein had a notably higher positive rate in cases of acute leukemia than that in the control group, and P53 was thus considered to be a possible factor leading to the occurrence of leukemia., 百拇医药
