Professor Wang Yongcai of the second clinical college of Dalian Medical University used micronucleus assay and analysis of content of DNA, accurately predicted myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) prior to the appearance of the malignant cells and a rapid diagnosis was made ahead of any clinical manifestations. This method can also be used as a prospective diagnostic parameter and theoretical basis for the conversion of MDS to preleukemia.

MDS is also called preleukemia, which is an abnormal clonal disease of of the hematopoietic stem cells resulted by severe disorder of the latter; among them 30 % of the MDS may develop into leukemia. Professor Wang improved the 4 items of micronucleus detection and the combined assays of DNA multiple parameters and proceeded with the controlled study and follow-up analysis of the multiple parameters in 78 cases of MDS, 110 cases of leukemia, 120 cases of benign blood disorders, 310 cases with malignant tumors, 184 cases with benign tumors and 300 normal individuals. It was proved that when the rate of micronuclei of lymphocytes was larger than 1‰ the conversion rate of MDS into leukemia increased by 10 folds; when the rate of micronuclei of lymphocytes was higher than 3‰, the conversion rate of MDS into leukemia increased for 20-30 folds. The study proved that this parameter could be used as a prospective marker for MDS conversion into leukemia, and a signal of prediction warning can be provided for the early diagnosis and classification of MDS, the treatment, prognosis, the conversion, especially the possibility of MDS converting into leukemia. Additionally, warning can also be suggested on the possibility of evoking carcinogenesis/mutagenesis which eventually provided the theoretical basis and effective method for prophylaxis of MDS and blockage for MDS to convert into leukemia., 百拇医药
