Biochips for clinical diagnosis developed in

     In the past, detection of sex hormone, insulin, thyroxin and gene defect required a period of at least 3 days, however, at present one hour is enough for the examination. Recently, the "transducer chips for combined target gene and automatic detection apparatus" prepared by the department of clinical laboratory of the South Western Hospital affiliated to the Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, had successfully passed the achievement evaluation and the special topic inspection by the State Department of Science and Technology. The authoritative person expressed that this achievement was a great breakthrough in the practical research of biochips in China.

    "Combined target gene transducer chips" is a kind of low density biochips directly aiming at the practical demand of the clinicians. The researchers combined the technique of mature piezoelectric quartz with the newly emerged technique of biochips, and collectively assembled the conventional gene chips "integration" with the special features of "possible for location analysis" and "parallel processing". On the basis of technical procedural optimization of biological transducer, the selection of method for probe fixation and the improvement of sensitivity of the biochips, the quartz column transducer biochips in contrast to fluorescence hybridization chips were successfully composed. This quartz column transducer biochips without the need of labeling, nor scanning apparatus, with the advantages of being able to detect real time dynamic nucleic acid hybridization, immunologic reaction, ligand-recipient binding reaction, coagulation reaction etc. remarkably improved the efficacy of laboratory detection due to the influence factors of highly efficient, systemic approach and optimization to satisfy the demand of detection for large numbers of clinical specimens. They had successfully prepared the piezo-biological transducer chip detection apparatus which assembled sample pretreatment, automatic progress of specimens, and analysis during streaming movement into one united procedure, essentially realized automation of analysis for clinical gene and the other biological macro-molecules.

    Furthermore, they had used piezo-biological column transducer chips for the detection of the pathogens which are clinically hard to be cultured such as: methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, cytomegalovirus etc. thus expanded the scope of clinical application of the biological chips. Simultaneously, they also established syntony piezoelectric quartz chips and used in the clinical detection research of polypeptide hormone such as human HCG, C-peptide, insulin etc. and also the clinical detection research of tumor markers such as AFP, CEA etc. giving satisfactory results. Clinical trials in 6 hospitals revealed the device being of the special features and advantages of simple manipulation, less time consuming, less costly, able to detect large numbers of specimens and clinically highly practicable., http://www.100md.com
