【Abstract】 AIM: To study the expression of selenoproteinP (SeP) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its significance in clinical pathology. METHODS: SeP expression was detected in 84 cases of HCC tissues and 60 cases of normal liver tissues with polyclone antibody by tissue microarrys and immunohistochemistry. The results were compared with clinicopathologic grades. RESULTS: The positive expression rates of SeP in HCC and normal liver tissues were 77.4% (65/84) and 95.0% (57/60), respectively, showing significant statistical difference (P<0.05). The SeP expression was correlated to the Child Classification. But, no correlation was found between SeP expression level, the TNM classification and the Edmondson grade. CONCLUSION: SeP may play an important role in the carcinogenesis of HCC. The expression level of SeP in HCC tissues may serve as a clinicopathologic index for the hepatic function and prognosis of HCC. ......
