Analysis of mental health status and personality in military medical graduate students

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To evaluate the mental health status and personality of the military medical graduate students. METHODS: The Symptom Checklist 90 (SCLª²90), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Center for Epidemiology Studies Depression Scale (CESª²D) were used to evaluate the mental health and personality of 198 military medical postª²graduate students, who were gathered and asked to complete the questionnaires in 35 minutes. RESULTS: Indexes of SCLª²90 showed that the male students had significantly higher scores in average positive items(P<0.05). P, L dimensions in EPQ were significantly different between male and female students. Compared with female students, the male group had higher scores in P dimension and lower scores in L dimension(P<0.01). Students with different selfª²evaluated characters (Group A: introverted; Group B: middle; Group C: extroverted) had different scores of SCLª²90 indexes and students in group A had significant higher scores than students in group B and group C. Students with CESª²D value exceeding 20 was 22.9%, 8.5% and 6.1% respectively in group A, B and C, and 31.4%, 22.2% and 18.2% students in group A, group B and group C had SCLª²90 positive symptoms. CONCLUSION: It is not the gender but the personality that may be the main risk factor affecting the metal health status in military medical graduate students. ......
