Effect of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge on myocardial pathological changes and hemorheology in spontaneously hypertensive rats

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate the effect of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge(SMB) on myocardial pathological changes and hemorheology in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). METHODS: Study was performed on normal Witstarª²kyoto(WKY) rats and SHR. Part of SHR were treated with Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge for 12 weeks. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and the indexes of hemorheology were measured. Sections of heart tissue was stained with HE method and Vangieson method, Collagen volume fraction was determined in the left ventricle by automatically quantitative morphometry. RESULTS: Compared with WKY rats, SHR exhibited higher left ventricular mass index , SBP, TDM , left ventricular collagen volume fraction (P<0.05),After treatment, all indexes diminished (P<0.05)except SBP. CONCLUSION: Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge can prevent and reverse LVH and myocardial fibrosis in SHR, the mechanism is probably related with normalize hemorheology. ......
