Effects of smallª²incision radiofrequency ablation combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy on hepatocellular carcinoma

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To study the therapeutic effects of smallª²incision radiofrequency ablation (RFA) combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Twentyª²one HCC cases were treated with smallª²incision RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy of FMC scheme (fluorouracil 1000 mg, mitomycin 8 mg and carboplastin 300 mg) from drug delivery system (DDS). The chemotherapy was conducted once a month for three months. Another 21 cases were treated with ultrasoundª²guided percutanous RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy with FMC scheme. RESULTS: The vascular flow in the tumor was 4.8% and 23.8% respectively in the smallª²incision RFA group and ultrasoundª²guided RFA group 3 months after treatment. The smallª²incision RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy had better effects in tumor shrinkage than the ultrasoundª²guided percutanous RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy (¦Ö2=4.2, P<0.05) and the tumor size decreased by 50% in 3 cases 6 months after the smallª²incision RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy. The serum sILª²2R activity did not change significantly before and after treatment in the two groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Smallª²incision RFA combined with intraportal veinous chemotherapy is safe, simple and effective in the treatment of HCC. ......
