【Abstract】 AIM: To discuss the relationship between methylation of androgen receptor (AR) gene CpG island and atherosclerosis. METHODS: Hypersensitive methylation of restriction endonuclease and polymerase chain reaction were used to detect the methylation of AR gene CpG island in 96 atherosclerosis patients and ninetyone control cases. RESULTS: The methylation in male patients was lower than that in male control (P<0.05). The methylation had no obvious change between female patients and female control (P>0.05). Male patients had lower methylation than that of female patients (P<0.05) but there was no significant difference of methylation between male and female (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The dismethylation of AR gene CpG island may partly induce atherosclerosis.
