     Research on mental health status and its related factors of recruits stationed on islands

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the mental health status and its related factors of the recruits who will station on islands. METHODS: One hundred and six new recruits were assessed with SCL90, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), Selfesteem Scale and Selfdesigned life events Scale. Compared with the norm of Chinese new recruits, their mental health status was assessed and the social psychological factors were analyzed. RESULTS: All the factor scores of the SCL90 in the new recruits who will station on islands were higher than the norm of Chinese new recruits, and there were significant differences in the factors of obsessivecompulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety, hostility and psychoticism. Their mental health was positively correlated with their personality of neuroticism and psychoticism, negative coping style and life events, and was negatively correlated with the degree of selfesteem. CONCLUSION: The mental health status of the new recruits who will station on islands are worse than that of the common new recruits. Life events, neuroticism, negative coping style, introvert and extravert are the main factors affecting their mental health. ......
