Antimicrobial susceptibility in senile patients with lower respiratory tract infection in northern Shaanxi

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate antimicrobial susceptibility in senile patients with lower respiratory tract infection in northern Shaanxi. METHODS: Two hundred and fiftyª²six senile patients with lower respiratory tract infection were enrolled in the study (male 157, female 99, aged from 60 to 92 years). Pathogenic bacteria 369 strains were segregated from the patients¡¯ sputum samples. RESULTS: In 369 pathogenic bacteria strains, there were 87 Gram positive coccus strains (23.6%) and 282 Gram negative bacilli strains (76.4%), including 89 pseudomonas aeruginosa strains (24.1%), 76 klebsiella strains (21.0%), 87 staphylococcus strains (23.6%), 53 acinetobacter strains (14.4%), 42 escherichia Colistrains (11.4%) and 22 enterobacter strains (6.0%). Gram positive coccus was different in sensitivity to 14 antibiotics, of which staphylococcus aureus resistant to meticillin sodium was sensitive to vancomycin (100%), staphylococcus aureus resistant to meticillin sodium was sensitive to oxacillin, ofloxacin and vancomycin (99%), and staphylococcus aureus resistant to coagulase negative meticillin sodium was sensitive to vancomycin (100%). The sensitivity of Gramª²negative bacilli was different in 18 antibiotics (from 4% to 97%) but was all more than 95% to imipenem. CONCLUSION: In northern Shaanxi, the sensibility of infectious agents causing lower respiratory tract infection in senile patients is lower to general antibiotics, and regular monitoring of the sensitivity to antibiotic should be conducted for better clinical medication. ......
