Effects of gallium salts on bone metabolism in rats of mandibular osteoporosis

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿AIM£º To investigate the influence of gallium salts on the bone metabolism of mandibular osteoporosis rats caused by tretinoin. METHODS: After duplicating mandibular osteoporotic rat model by using tretinoin, the rats were divided into control group, osteoporosis group, estrogen treated group, and gallium chloride treated group. Gallium salts were applied to treat mandible osteoporosis of rats for 60 days, while estrogen was used as controls to study its effects on the rat mandible bone metabolism by bone histomorphmetry and biochanical examination. RESULTS: Gallium salts decreased the AKP and TRAP to the level of control group, widened the average width of the mandible bone trabecular, increased the ration of the trabecular contents, and narrowed the average distance between the trabecular. CONCLUSION: Gallium salts depress the bone turnover and slow down the mandible bone amount loss, and retard the process of the mandible osteoporosis. ......
