     Association of P wave dispersion with occurrence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertension

    【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the association of P wave dispersion (Pd) and P wave duration with the occurrence rate of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in patients with hypertension. METHODS: Eightyfour patients with hypertension were evaluated. Fortytwo patients with hypertension and PAF served as disease group and others as control group. Electrocardiography was recorded from the all patients on admission. Maximum P wave duration (Pmax) and Pd were calculated. RESULTS: Pmax and Pd in disease group were significantly higher than those in control group [mean Pmax, (110±9) ms vs (100±8) ms, P<0.01; Pd, (40±6) ms vs (33±7) ms, P<0.01]. CONCLUSION: Pd is an independent predictor of PAF occurrence in patients with hypertension. ......
