【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the relation between sleep quality and mental health of medical research staff and to study the possible related impact factors. METHODS: One hundred and fiftytwo medical research staff were evaluated and analyzed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL90) and General Information Questionnaire scale. RESULTS: ① With the total PSQI score≥8 as the standard for evaluation, 9.7% medical researchers had sleep problems, such as daytime dysfunction (48.3%), low sleep quality (19.3%), prolonged sleep latency (16.0%) and shorter sleep duration(10.6%). ② Sex or education level had little impact on the sleep quality and mental health. ③The main factor affecting the sleep quality was the status of mental health. The total score of PSQI had a positive correlation with the general symptomatic index of SCL90 (r=0.329). Multivariate regression analyses showed that paranoid and somatization had significant influences on the sleep quality. ④ People with different sleep quality also differ greatly in the status of mental health (P<0.05). Post Hoc Tests showed that the sleep quality had a positive correlation with mental health (P<0.05). ⑤ The score of depression and psychopathy in clinical researchers was higher than that of basic medical researchers (P<0.05). ⑥ The sleep quality and mental health status of the researchers who were satisfied with the progress of their researches were better than those who were not satisfied with their research progress(P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Medical researchers have some problems in sleep quality. The status of mental health is the main factor that affects the sleep quality, and vice verse. Satisfaction of research progress is also an important factor affecting the sleep quality and mental health. ......
