Clinical value of bone metabolic markers in diagnosis and treatment of primary osteoporosis

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To explore the clinical values of bone metabolic markers in the diagnosis and treatment of primary osteoporosis. METHODS: Two hundred and seventyª²two elderly volunteers were divided into osteoporosis (OP) group and control group according to their bone mineral density (BMD) at various skeletal sites, and serum BGP, PINP and ICTP were determined by radioimmunoassay. RESULTS: The levels of serum BGP and PINP of OP group were statistically lower than those of control group, but the level of ICTP was higher than that of control group. The difference between the two groups was of statistical significance (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The combined determinations of serum BGP, PINP and ICTP can reflect the bone collagen metabolic conditions, which is of important clinical values for the diagnosis and treatment of primary osteoporosis. ......
