【Abstract】 AIM: To study the expression levels of mRNA and protein of inhibitor of apoptosis protein, survivin, in human brain glioma cell lines BT325 and SHG44 and its significance. METHODS: The expression levels of mRNA and protein of survivin were investigated respectively by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) and immunohistochemistry methods in cell lines BT325 and SHG44. RESULTS: The high expression of mRNA and protein of survivin, as well as low expression of splice variant of survivin, survivin2B, was observed in BT325 cells. Protein of survivin was located in cytoplasm of BT325 cells, but mRNA and protein of survivin were not expressed in SHG44 cells. CONCLUSION: Survivin plays an important role in maintaining the biological features of BT325 cells. BT325 and SHG44 cells can be used as ideal cell models respectively for research of gene inhibition and gene transfer of survivin. ......
