     Expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of lung cancer in elderly patients

    【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the significance of the expression levels of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of lung cancer in elderly patients. METHODS: The expression levels of hTERT were detected in 20 elderly patients with lung cancer and 10 normal elderly subjects by quantitative measurement with RTPCR. RESULTS: The expression levels of hTERT mRNA in the lung cancer patients (0.927±0.115) were significantly higher than those in normal subjects (0.408±0.124, P<0.001), without significant correlation with pathological types and clinical stages. CONCLUSION: The quantitative measurement with RTPCR for the expression levels of hTERT mRNA is an effective method in the diagnosis of lung cancer in patients who are not fit for other examinations. ......
