Plasma endothelin and calcitionin geneª²related peptide in Barrett¬ðs esophagus

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To observe the levels of plasma¬ðs endothelin (ET) and calcitonin geneª²related peptide (CGRP) in Barrett¬ðs esophagus (BE). METHODS: Thirtyª²eight cases with BE, 26 cases with reflux esophagitis (RE) and 18 healthy individual as control group were included in this study. The levels of ET and CGRP were measured by radioimmnoassay. RESULTS: The ET levels were significantly higher in BE than in those in RE and control (P<0.05, P<0.01)£»The CGRP levels were significantly lower in BE than those in RE and control (P<0.05, P<0.01). The CGRP levels were significantly lower in RE than those in control (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: It is suggested that the concentrations of plasma¬ðs ET and CGRP change significantly in BE and that ET and CGRP may be involved in the pathogenesis of BE and their variations in concentrations are related with the development of BE. ......
