Brassica campestris
Origin:
The oil of the seeds of the vegetable Brassica campestris L.
Properties:
Pungent in flavor, warm in nature, it is related to the spleen and stomach channels.
Functions:
Lubricates intestines, relieves constipation, clears toxic effects.
Applications:
1. For thinness due to deficiency of qi (energy), blood and yin (body fluids), constipation with drying intestines:
Drink vegetable oil in quantity.
2. For measles, itch, eczema, furuncles:
Apply vegetable oil on the affected area. Avoid washing the affected parts with water during treatment.
Dosage and Administration:
Used as cooking oil or as a topical agent.
Different oils have different uses. Some, such as sesame oil, olive oil are ideal for seasoning. Others, such as sunflower oil, can be used in salad dressing. Some oils, including corn oil, lard and vegetable oil, are particularly good for cooking.
