    【Abstract】 AIM: To explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase2 (MMP2) in the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS: Hamsters were used to establish diabetic models by Streptozotocin (40 mg/kg). Total RNA of retina was collected. The expression of MMP2 mRNA in retina were observed by using semiquantitative RTPCR. Morphologic characteristics and changes of retina was observed by HE staining. The changes of TG, TC were tested serologically and insulin was tested by electrochemiluminescence. RESULTS: Diabetic hamster displayed not only hyperglycaemia, but also hyperlipemia. The expression of MMP2 mRNA in retina showed a increasing tendency. CONCLUSION: MMP2 may contribute to the pathogenesis of DR. ......
