【Abstract】 AIM: To evaluate the biological safety of polypyrrole film electropolymerized on Tisubstrates for possible use as dental implant. METHODS: The biological safety was evaluated through the experiments including hemolysis test, shortterm systemic toxicity test, oral mucous membrane irritation test and cytotoxicity test (MTT test). RESULTS: The material had no hemolytic activities. The shortterm systemic toxicity test results showed that no histopathological changes were found in the vital organs such as heart, kidney and liver of tested animals. No local response was observed in the oral mucosa membrane irritation test. MTT revealed that L929 cells grew well in the extract and the grade of cytotoxicity was zero. CONCLUSION: The Tisubstrates coated with polypyrrole film have good biological safety.
