     Expression of fibroblast growth factor 10 mRNA in epidermal lesions of psoriasis vulgaris

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the mRNA expression of fibroblast growth factor 10(FGF10) in psoriasis vulgaris and the role of FGF10 in the pathogenesis of active psoriasis. METHODS: We detected FGF10 mRNA in normal epidermal tissues from 22 normal volunteers undergoing cosmetic surgery, uninvolved and psoriatic lesions from 22 patients by in situ hybridization. RESULTS: The expression of FGF10 mRNA in epidermis specimens was found in psoriatic lesion,uninvolved and normal epidermis with in situ hybridization. Positive staining in epidermis was distributed in the whole epidermis, and was observed in cell plasma(95%), while positive staining in normal epidermis was localized mainly at the basal cell layer(5%). Positive staining in uninvolved epidermis was located in the basal layer of epidermis (82%).Compared with the normal epidermis, the positive rate and the mean expression level of FGF10 mRNA in epidermis of psoriasis vulgaris were significantly higher than those in the normal epidermal tissues(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The higher lever of FGF10 mRNA in the epidermis of patients with psoriasis vulgaris may play an important role in the early pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris. ......
