ABSTRACT: Objective To study the clinical significance of metallothionein in bladder transitional cell cacinoma (BTCC). Methods 72 specimens of BTCC were assessed by immunohistochemical method (SP method). Results Among the 72 cases, the positive rate of metallothionein in Grade Ⅰ, Grade Ⅱ and Grade Ⅲ of BTCC was 34.8%, 55.6% and 92.8%, and was 64% in initial BTCC and 87.3% in recurred BTCC. Conclusion Metallothionein may be a valuable marker of drug resistance, invasive behavior and recurrence in BTCC.
