【Abstract】 AIM: To study the expression and activity of aquaporin1 (AQP1) in pulmonary tissues in diabetic rats after fed ZeHuangKeLi (ZHKL). METHODS: In 60 SD rats, diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced by highglucose and highlipid diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ). After 2 months, DM rats were chosen and randomly divided into model group, observed group, control group (10 rats per group).After 2 monthtreatment of ZHKL, we observed the pathologic changes in lungs and detected the expression AQP1 by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: We observed the thickened basal lamina of pulmonary capillary and increased number of fibres in DM rats. The expression of AQP1 decreased in the model group. Compared with the model and control groups, the expression of AQP1 increased in the observed group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: AQP1 is decreased in lung tissues in DMinduced microcirculation disorder. AQP1 plays an important role in lung edema in DM rats. ZHKL can regulate the activity of AQP1 to improve the water metabolism of lung tissue. ......
