【Abstract】 AIM: To observe the effects of αlipoic acid (αLA) on oxidative injury induced by myocardial ischemia reperfusion (IR) in rats. METHODS: Sixtysix SD rats were randomized into 11 groups (n=6 per group): 1 normal control group and 10 test groups (5 IR groups and 5 αLA+IR groups). The 5 IR groups were divided based on the time of reperfusion into IR0, IR1, IR2, IR4 and IR8 (0, 1, 2, 4, 8 h, respectively); the 5 αLA+IR groups were divided in the same way. The activities of creatine kinase (CK) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in both blood serum and myocardial tissue of each group were measured. RESULTS: The activity of CK in myocardial tissue of IR groups was stepping up gradually, and so was in the LA+IR groups, but compared with corresponding group (the same time of reperfusion), the activity of CK in LA+IR groups was lower than that in IR groups (P<0.05). It was the same as that in blood serum except LA+IR0 and IR0 groups (P>0.05). The content of MDA and the activity of SOD in IR groups were also stepping up, and in LA+IR groups were lower than those in corresponding IR groups (P<0.05). The content of GSH in IR groups was stepping down, and that in LA+IR groups was much higher than those in corresponding IR groups (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The myocardial IR in rats could induce myocardial injury closely related to oxidation including decrease of GSH content, increase of MDA level and SOD activity; αLA had preventive effects on myocardial injury induced by IR. ......
