    Where to start with an introduction to Red Wine? Perhaps I will begin by just explaining why red wine is different to white wine. The difference lies not, as is often thought, in the colour of the grape used to make the wine but in the fact that in making red wine the grapes' stems, seeds and skins are not removed. Leaving the juice to mix with the woody bits produces tannin which gives red wine its well known weight and complex flavour. In making white wine the skins, stems and seeds of the grapes are removed and hence there is no tannin.
