Australians see US as a Threat

A survey carried out in late March revealed that a majority of Australians consider US foreign policy as much of a threat to world peace as Islamic fundamentalism. 57% of respondents said that US foreign policy was a danger to the stability of the international situation and 68% believed that Australia paid too much attention to the US in setting its own foreign policy. The survey was conducted by the Lowy Institute for International Policy. They also found that on a list of fifteen Australian allies, America ranked 11th place with Australians for 'positive feelings'. Australia sent 2000 troops to the war in Iraq and still maintains a force of 300 there, with another 600 in the Middle East.
