    One-hit-wonders, artists who are remembered for one successful song, have existed in every decade since the pop era began. The term is often used in a derogatory way, implying that one-hit-wonders are artists without the necessary talent to endure the capricious tastes of the music listening public. However, not all one-hit-wonders can be written off as flash-in-the-pans. Some have had several hits but suffered from the phenomenal success of one particular single which overshadowed the rest. Others are highly successful in non-pop genres but are remembered by the public for the one that appealed to the hoi polloi. A few were deliberately one-hit-wonders who decided to capitalize on a fad or craze (the Pac-man song of the 1980s comes to mind). Many of the songs which were to be the artist's first and last are fondly remembered by fans and continue to get radio play long after their creators retired.
