    Tourists flying to Thailand will from nowon be arriving at Bangkok's new ￡2 billioninternational airport. The airy, expansiveSuvarnabhumi Airport was the pet projectof former Prime Minister Shinawatrawho has just been deposed in a militarycoup. Before the opening, 99 monks andBrahmin priests performed a ceremony toapologise to the spirits of the land for anyoffences committed during the airport'sconstruction, along with the spirits ofanimals who died on what was onceswampland infested with snakes and othercreatures. Don Muang airport had threeterminals, totalling about 390,000 squaremetres and serviced about 60 flights perhour and 36.5 million passengers per year.Suvarnabhumi is capable of handling 76flights per hour and 45 million passengersper year.
