     Gefion Fountain

    吉菲昂喷泉

The fountain before the Gefion goddess, who is harnessing an ox to plough, is situated 500 meters north of Amalienborg Palace. Legend has it that a Swedish king once promised to offer as much land as she could plough up from Sweden within one day and one night. Gefion transformed her four sons into oxen and harnessed them to a plough. They ploughed up a large plot of land and then move it out into the sea. This land is said to have become today's Seeland of Copenhagen.
