Recently developed software such as Linux and other open source based platforms are now giving Windows a run for its money. In this month's edition of Gizmos and Gadgets, we are going to take a look at one of these popular new systems, the super user-friendly Ubuntu. The Ubuntu OS is a Linux-oriented distribution, based on the Debian GNU/Linux system.It is an open source project, meaning that programmers from all over the world are free to come on the website and make contributions to the program. The project is sponsored by Canonical Ltd., which is owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. Ubuntu focuses heavily on being easy to install, easy to use, and easy to update. The name Ubuntu originates from an African concept which roughly translates to "humanity toward others."
