It holds no major tourist attractions, but here, more than anywhere else in central St. Petersburg, is it possible to feel the past. The charming little buildings and simple bridges crossing the canals stand as if unaltered since the days when Russia's greatest literary masters lived. You can easily imagine Dostoevsky's tortured hero Raskolnikov wandering these streets in a feverish daze, contemplating his crime.
