In each of these movies the protagonist is anything but a hero; unsuccessful at everything they try their hands at; going nowhere in life, they fail continually at everything but winning the hearts of the movie's audience. One other similarity between the main actors of each of these movies is that they are not attractive, not necessarily ugly, just nothing beyond ordinary. Most of them are not even physically healthy, but rather a bit overweight, hairy where they shouldn't be and prone to laziness and heavy drinking/smoking.
