维基百科如是定义员工福利，“指除去员工基本工资之外，各类以非工资形式，由公司提供给员工的补助报酬。”公司给予员工这部分补助是为了增加员工的日常基本收入，也是为了吸引新员工为公司注入新鲜血液，还有就是为了留住现有员工继续为公司效力。通常，公司会在招聘时标明员工福利，在续签劳动合的同时也会加上福利部分。员工福利的范围很广，从医疗保障到陪产假、带薪休假、病假等等。这类福利在一定程度上都须纳税并写入劳动合同。
