     The combination of these factors leaves us with the following: A country where guns are not only considered attractive, even empowering, but are also very easy to acquire. Add to this a rise in gun violence – particularly in the inner cities – and you can see why America's gun control advocates are starting to kick up a stink again.

    The gun control lobby in the United States wants, in some cases, the utter removal of firearms from public use – many cite Great Britain's utter ban on handgun and rifle ownership as a model for what America's society could be like without guns in the hands of the populace. More moderate members of the lobby want tougher restrictions on purchasing handguns, safety precautions such as gun safes and trigger locks made mandatory, and restrictions on where handguns are allowed to be carried. What they all agree on, though, is that handguns are an unnecessary evil in modern-day America.
