Abstract:[Objective]To study the biological of β-carotene on oxidative damage induced by cigarette smoke。[Methods]Deoxyribose(DR)degradation and plasmid DNA methods were used to detemine oxidative damage of aqueous cigarette smoke solution(ACSS)and effects ofβ-carotene。ROSinduced strongly DR degradation and DNA damage。β-carotene showed slight protecion of DR degradation of ACSS at a hige coonentration,and potent protectiveeffects on DNA damage of ACSS at a lower concentration。[Conclusion]Large amount of long half life reactive oxygen species was generated from aqueous solution of cigarette smoke。β-carotene exerted antioxidat8ive effect on oxidative damage induced by ACSS。
