We thank the authors Sahu et al for showing an interest in our clinical brief published in IJP in February 2005.[1] We would like to clarify the points raised by them. The association of autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) with tuberculosis is extremely rare as acknowledged by the authors themselves. Early experimental studies[2] cannot be equated with actual clinical cases. Moreover, all the case reports have been in adult patients.[3],[4],[5],[6] Therefore the association of AIHA with childhood tuberculosis is even rarer.

As regards the case report by Bakshi et al[7], it was published at a time when our case report had already been submitted and was under peer review. Hence, we could not make a reference to it in our article.

We did not claim that it is the first case report of tuberculosis with AIHA, rather childhood tuberculosis with AIHA, at the time of going to press. The world childhood tuberculosis was inadvertently missed.
